Knowing God through Giving - John Van Sloten

|Giving, if God's very nature is self giving love, then shouldn't our natures be the same? We are made in the image of a giving God.
The silver is mine and the gold is mine, declares the Lord Almighty.
Haggai 2:8, NIV
"Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work."
The Apostle Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:7-9, TNIV
"I love the feeling of connectedness that comes with giving. The feeling of ‘letting go’ is liberating and makes me feel fully alive. Intentionally sharing our time, our money, our lives with others reminds me that we are part of a greater whole. It’s easy to get wrapped up in the busy details of our own lives. Giving creates space for reflection and perspective on all of the many blessings we’ve been given. When we consider all of these gifts – our families, freedom, homes, relationships, vocations, financial security, even our physical bodies…how can we not respond to God’s whisper to give back for his purposes?"
New Hoper Anna Loomis
"For me part of the answer to the questions you have about how giving feels 'just right' has to do with freedom. When I give I am allowing myself to be disengaged from what I give and more engaged with what or who I give to."
New Hoper Heather Cowie
“Jesus looked at him and loved him. ‘One thing you lack,’ he said. ‘Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.’ ”
Mark 10:21, TNIV
"In Haiti there is a saying, "If you get a piece of cake and eat the whole thing, you will feel empty. If you get a piece of cake and share half of it, you will feel both full and fulfilled.' "
