Media @ New Hope CalgaryWe continue our series on craftsmanship by looking God’s truth as it’s found in glass blowing.

“Because it’s fun…”
A Glass Blower’s answer to why she loves what she does

"Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say, "Do it again"; and the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible that God says every morning, "Do it again" to the sun; and every evening, "Do it again" to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity that makes all daisies alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never got tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old,
and our Father is younger than we."
G.K. Chesterton

“GOD spoke to Moses: "See what I've done; I've personally chosen Bezalel son of Uri, son of Hur of the tribe of Judah. I've filled him with the Spirit of God, giving him skill and know-how and expertise in every kind of craft to create designs and work in gold, silver, and bronze; to cut and set gemstones; to carve wood—he's an all-around craftsman.”
Exodus 31:1-5

“To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
Colossians 1:15-28

i find an extremely close connection to spirituality when i blow glass. the very fundamental nature of reality is putty in our hands as glass artists. We get to take this fundamentally unstable mineral mix and use the very rules of nature to create an abstracted thought into reality. I'm not religious in any sense of the word, but I do believe in God, and I can very much feel his presence when I'm working. We get to work in teams to create beautiful things, many of which are very useful.
