Power and Authority - Paul Verhoef
March 15, 2009
|Paul asks the question of us, do we shed tears for those in need or do we bring tears to people we interact with?
Max Weber, the sociologist, spent some time thinking about how society is shaped, changed, formed. And in the process, he wondered about the difference between power - the ability to coerce - and authority, which
comes through loving sacrifice. How does power shape the world? What is it's fingerprint? And what about the fingerprint of authority? This morning, we'll wonder about a Father who desires to bring deep change to a
broken world - and follow the fingerprints of Jesus as he unravels the hope of His Father.
'...because he taught as one who had authority'
'God chose the foolish to shame the wise,
the weak to shame the strong,
the lowly, the despised and the things that are not
to nullify the things that are'
1 Cor 1:27-28
God came in Jesus to change the world. But how is he doing it? How does deep and lasting change happen?
'He made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant'
