“Shoes... are clearly useful objects for both sexes, but it is only for women that they become an all-consuming obsession. Women’s magazines tell us how to use shoes to find ourselves a husband, re-conquer a lost lover, or get that job we hanker after. They can cost a fortune, yet while money itself does not bring happiness, money spent on a pair of shoes can bring about exaltation...”
Paola Jaccobi, I Want Those Shoes, p3

“please please please tell me it won’t all be about women and shoes and glorifying our culture’s obsession with (and indulgence in) manufactured beauty”
Quoted from an email sent to New Hope Church re: sermonizing on shoes!

“Take on an entirely new way of life – a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you...”
The Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:24

“During the forty years that I led you through the desert, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet.
God to his people in Deuteronomy 29:5

“In medieval Europe, moral precepts formulated from the Bible were used to limit the height of shoes and the wearing of footwear made of luxurious materials such as silk, embroidery and pearls.”
Shoes; A History from Sandals to Sneakers, P5

“I clothed you with an embroidered dress and put leather sandals on you. I dressed you in fine linen and covered you with costly garments. I adorned you with jewelry: I put bracelets on your arms and a necklace around your neck...”
God to his people via the prophet Ezekiel 16

How beautiful your sandaled feet,
O prince's daughter!
Your graceful legs are like jewels the work of a craftsman's hands.
Song of Songs 7:1, The Bible

I am a Christian and fashion is my number one passion ...but I don't really aggree that fashion belongs to God. It is just a worldly gift. this is my opinion.

I just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to tell part of my story. Coming from a Catholic tradition, where women are only able to read scripture, to be able to use my voice and my own words was special.

If anyone would like to share their shoe story please go to www.shoesdit.com or email me directly at jocelynburgener@shaw.ca

Lastly, as I do motivational speaking if anyone has an opportunity (Women's group, workshop etc) please feel free to contact me.

Again, thank you.
Jocelyn
